RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform field inspections of mechanical and commercial plumbing systems to ensure compliance with project specifications, building codes, and regulatory requirements
- Inspect installation of piping systems, fixtures, equipment, and associated components for quality and code compliance
- Verify work aligns with approved drawings, submittals, and design documents
- Identify deficiencies, code violations, and installation issues, and communicate findings clearly to project teams
- Document inspection results, including detailed reports and corrective action tracking
- Support coordination with construction teams, engineers, and project stakeholders to resolve field issues
- Monitor contractor work to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and performance expectations
- Participate in walkthroughs, punch list development, and project closeout activities
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including IPC, IMC, and local/state requirements
REQUIREMENTS
- ICC Certification as a Commercial Plumbing Inspector or Mechanical Inspector (preferred or required based on candidate strength)
- Strong background in mechanical systems with emphasis on commercial plumbing
- Experience performing inspections on construction projects (industrial, commercial, or government preferred)
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards (IPC, IMC, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and submittals
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify installation deficiencies
- Good communication skills and ability to work directly with field teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work on-site full-time at Sandia National Laboratories
- U.S. Citizenship required (DOE clearance eligibility)
• Must be able to obtain Commercial ICC Mechanical Inspector Certification within 6 months
• Must have commercial and industrial experience, not residential
• Onsite work, no remote
• No, Per diem
• Yes, Relocation. $3k / To be discussed further upon next steps in process, may increase per years of experience
• Max Salary, $90k / BOE , could possibly flex
Bonus:
• PE (Professional Engineer) cert
